Since 2004, Daylight Christian Prison Trust has been undertaking ministry in prisons, sharing the Gospel with prisoners, discipling those prisoners who are Christians, and supporting prisoners we have come to know during their sentences when they are released.
God has prospered the work and we now wish to appoint a Development Officer to help us reach more prisoners, in more prisons, with the help of more churches and more Christians.
An occupational requirement to be a Christian aligned with our Doctrinal Statement (which can be found here) applies to this role.
Daylight is supported by a wide variety of Bible-believing churches and undertakes its work through Sunday services, Bible Studies, Letter Writing, in-cell Bible courses, undertaking prison chaplaincy duties, and running courses of Christianity Explored Prison Edition, which Daylight helped to develop, and which enables prisoners, regardless of reading ability (including none), to study Mark’s gospel.
The Development Officer will be responsible for developing, recommending and implementing a plan for Daylight to “deliver its mission to more beneficiaries through more supporters and volunteers.”
As these new opportunities will require more resources, especially suitable volunteers, the Development Officer must also be comfortable reaching out to sympathetic churches, building relationships that will generate interest, and encouraging suitable members to get involved and to provide support.
Managing Chaplains will be key contacts for Daylight in both private and public sector prisons and the Development Officer will be essential in initiating and maintaining good relationships, regardless of the faith of the Managing Chaplain.
With a focus on maintaining Daylight’s doctrinal basis and on the importance of the word of God and prayer, the Development Officer will be responsible for ensuring Daylight grows and builds on its existing foundations.
